Mozilla Firefox 3’s robot easter egg
Mozilla Firefox 3, which was released on June 17, 2008 by the Mozilla Corporation, is an open source web browser, one of the best probably. The developer team has put a nice little easter egg about robotic references into Firefox 3. Just type about:robots into the address bar and behold:
And if you’re curious about “Klaatu Barada Nikto” as in the about:robots page title, it’s a reference to a 1951 film, The Day The Earth Stood Still. Helen Benson, a character from the movie, uttered the phrase to the robot Gort, to stop it from destroying the earth.
And see here to examine developer’s discussion about this robot “feature”
Lastly, for those who still use Firefox 2, don’t worry, you still can access an old eastern egg about the birth of Firefox. Just type about:mozilla and you’ll get a quote from the “Book of Mozilla” about the birth of Firefox.
